HOULTON, Maine — A 21-year-old Houlton man, Caleb Thompson, charged with gross sexual assault and kidnapping, was transferred on Thursday to a supervised care home in Lewiston after a judge approved a change in his bail conditions earlier in the week.
According to court records, Thompson, who is autistic, was arrested on August 22 following a report from his family to the Houlton Police Department. They told authorities they believed he had kept a young woman with special needs captive for a week at his grandparents’ home on Madigan Street, during which he allegedly assaulted her multiple times.
On October 30, an Aroostook County grand jury indicted Thompson on five charges:
Class A charges could result in up to 30 years in prison and a $50,000 fine. If convicted, Thompson faces the possibility of a lengthy prison term.
“Initially, Aroostook County Justice Robert Langner set Thompson’s bail at $5,000 cash and placed him on house arrest with GPS monitoring.”
On Monday, Justice Langner approved a motion modifying the bail terms, allowing Thompson to temporarily reside in a Lewiston care home operated by DIRIGO Support Professionals, where he remains under round-the-clock supervision.
A Maine man accused of sexually assaulting and kidnapping a woman with special needs is now under 24-hour supervision at a Lewiston care facility following a judicial bail revision.
