Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown has been extradited from Dubai to Miami to face a charge of attempted murder tied to a shooting that occurred outside a celebrity boxing event in May, according to Miami authorities.
Officials confirmed that the 37-year-old athlete was flown on Thursday from Dubai and arrived in the United States through Newark, New Jersey. Records indicate he was booked into Essex County Jail the same day before being transferred to Miami custody.
“He was kind of taunting us, saying, 'I'm safe here,' and that's what we interpreted from those videos, but you know what, he was laughing then; we're getting the last laugh,” said spokesperson Officer Michael Vega.
“No matter who you are, what power or what money you have, if you commit a crime in the city of Miami, we're going to identify and locate you and bring you to justice,” Vega added.
The charges stem from a May 16 shooting outside a venue near Northeast 2nd Avenue and 67th Street. An off-duty police officer providing event security reported hearing gunfire and witnessing Brown fighting with another man in the parking lot. Authorities issued an arrest warrant for Brown in June on a count of attempted murder with a firearm.
Antonio Brown, extradited from Dubai, now faces an attempted murder charge in Miami following a May shooting linked to a celebrity event.
