The Diocese of Auchi, Nigeria, has announced the death of Emmanuel Alabi, a young seminarian kidnapped along with two others in July. The seminarians, aged 14 to 17, were abducted by bandits from the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary on July 10.
Father Linus Imoedemhe, assistant director of communications for the diocese, reported that two seminarians, Japhet Jesse and Joshua Aleobua, were released, but Emmanuel Alabi died during the ordeal.
"Bishop Gabriel Dunia of Auchi has expressed his deep pain and sorrow over the loss of the young seminarian and has called on security agencies to intensify efforts toward protecting the lives and property of all citizens," said Father Imoedemhe.
The diocese remains committed to faith, peace, and justice, trusting in God’s mercy to comfort the bereaved family, the seminary community, and all affected by this tragedy.
During the attack, a security guard named Christopher Aweneghieme was killed, according to Vatican News. Bishop Dunia later confirmed that the kidnappers contacted the diocese to demand a ransom, as reported by Fides, the news agency of the Pontifical Mission Societies.
The Diocese of Auchi mourns the loss of a kidnapped seminarian and urges stronger security measures to protect citizens amid ongoing threats.
