The Betfred World Club Challenge will take place in Hull, bringing international attention to the city’s MKM Stadium. Hull City Council Leader, Councillor Mike Ross, expressed enthusiasm about winning the bid amid competition from Qatar, Australia, and other UK cities.
“After interest from Qatar, Australia, and other UK Cities, we are delighted another world-class event is coming to Hull, with the prestigious Betfred World Club Challenge heading to the MKM Stadium.”
Built in 2002 with a 25,000-seat capacity, the MKM Stadium was designed to host top-tier international sports events. Councillor Ross highlighted the upcoming match in February, when Hull’s treble-winning Robins will face off against the Brisbane Broncos, the NRL champions.
The event is expected to ignite strong civic pride, similar to the recent homecoming of Hull KR when tens of thousands celebrated the team’s return.
“Just like the recent Hull KR’s homecoming celebrations, when 30,000 people lined the streets to welcome the team home, I’m sure the city will be buzzing with civic pride and excitement to see world-class players and entertainment on our doorstep.”
Hull looks forward to greeting rugby enthusiasts nationwide and the Brisbane Broncos' delegation traveling from Australia. Councillor Ross promises a warm reception in what he calls the world’s greatest rugby league city.
“You’ll be given a very warm and friendly Hull welcome from the greatest rugby league city in the world.”
