Claressa Shields has publicly condemned Jake Paul for his reaction to the cancellation of the Gervonta Davis fight, originally scheduled for November 14. The exhibition bout was called off due to Davis facing serious legal issues once again.
The announcement of the Paul vs. Davis fight sparked controversy mostly because of the notable size difference between the two fighters. After the cancellation, Jake Paul released an extensive statement harshly criticizing Davis as an unreliable business partner.
Shields responded by stating that Paul was fully aware of Davis' problematic history before agreeing to the fight. She highlighted that this was not the first time Davis, known as 'Tank,' faced allegations of domestic violence or legal troubles. Earlier this year, an arrest involving Davis also caused a planned rematch with Lamont Roach to be canceled.
"I'm not going to say I 100 percent agree with what Jake said, but I will say is that we all knew Tank's background with domestic violence before his fight got made. Before any of his fights get made, we already know he's got some issues with this." — Claressa Shields, speaking on X Spaces
Shields found it odd that Paul chose to publicly attack Davis' character when the fighter's troubled past was well known even before the fight was arranged.
