Misleading Photos Do Not Depict Tourist Sites in Sierra Leone

A Facebook page named BORN 2 BLOG shared several images claiming to show “some of the best places to visit when you come to Salone (Sierra Leone) on vacation,” including locations such as Lumley, Annie Walsh Corner, Congo Cross Junction, and P.Z. However, these images are not actual photographs of Sierra Leone.

The post has gone viral, attracting hundreds of likes and comments. It features striking night scenes with glowing lights, tall buildings, and neatly arranged palm trees, purportedly representing popular tourist destinations in Sierra Leone.

“Some of the best places to visit are in Salone on vacation.”

While many viewers reacted positively and believed the images accurately showed these areas, others doubted their authenticity, noting the pictures appeared unrealistic or foreign.

Due to concerns about spreading misinformation—particularly to foreigners or Sierra Leoneans living abroad—DUBAWA examined the images closely. The investigation revealed obvious signs of AI manipulation and digital editing.

Summary

Photos shared claiming to depict famous Sierra Leone tourist spots are digitally altered and do not reflect the true appearance of these locations.
