The PGA Tour will not grant releases to any members who participate in the LIV Golf Promotions event in Florida. LIV Golf officials chose Florida’s Black Diamond Resort to host their qualifying event from January 8-11, where the top two finishers earn LIV membership for 2026, likely to attract more tour professionals.
This decision poses a challenge for players who are members of the PGA Tour, Korn Ferry Tour, PGA Tour Champions, or PGA Tour Americas. According to a PGA Tour spokesperson, because the LIV event is held in North America, it is classified as an unauthorized event under PGA Tour rules.
“Any tour member who competes in it is subject to disciplinary action.”
Furthermore, non-PGA Tour members participating in the LIV Golf Promotions event face a one-year ban from PGA Tour-sanctioned events, including Monday qualifiers and sponsor’s exemptions.
This announcement followed the recent reveal of plans for the third LIV Golf Promotions event.
“The PGA Tour will not grant conflicting event or media rights releases to any tour member competing in the LIV Golf Promotions event.”
The ongoing tension between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf remains sharp, with the PGA Tour strictly enforcing regulations to protect its membership and tournaments.
