Two Stunning Poppy Displays Installed in Loughborough Ahead of Remembrance Sunday

Located at the heart of the Nottingham, Leicester, and Derby triangle, Charnwood is home to more than 155,000 residents. Over one third live in the vibrant university town of Loughborough.

As part of preparations for Remembrance Sunday, two striking poppy displays have been unveiled in Loughborough. The installations, featuring around 6,500 handmade knitted poppies on each tree, are located in Queen’s Park and on the Forest Road Greenbelt.

The project was a joint effort by Loughborough in Bloom and the Forest Road Greenbelt Gardeners, supported by numerous community volunteers. The displays accompany the upcoming Remembrance Sunday service in Queen’s Park on 9 November.

“This is a moving tribute to all those who have served our country and lost their lives in action,” said Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor David Northage. “I would like to thank everyone who helped knit and install the poppies—they make a striking centrepiece ahead of this year’s service.”

Pat Cook, chair of Loughborough in Bloom, added: “Loughborough in Bloom pays its respects each year to those who have served and lost their lives in the armed forces, and it is wonderful to decorate the trees with poppies once again.”
