Spitfire Joins Remembrance Sunday Commemorations in County Durham

A unique full-size reproduction Spitfire will serve as a powerful symbol of bravery and sacrifice this Remembrance Sunday, honoring those who served in past and present conflicts.

Event Details

The only hand-built reproduction Spitfire MK IX will be displayed at Millennium Place in Durham City on Sunday, 9 November, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Significance of the Occasion

As 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, Armed Forces Champion Cllr Andrew Harrison wanted to create a special tribute for Remembrance Day.

With support from Squadron Leader (Retired) James A Cowan MBE and Simply Spitfire, the reproduction aircraft was secured to honor these important milestones.

Parade Integration

The Spitfire will be displayed along the route of Durham City’s annual Remembrance Parade, which runs from 10:00 AM to noon on the same day.
