Director Edgar Wright is preparing a new, more faithful adaptation of Stephen King’s The Running Man, bringing back not only the story itself but also the classic tradition of the DVD commentary.
During our conversation, Wright reflected on a scene featuring Glen Powell and Daniel Ezra, both sleeveless, showcasing their impressive physiques. The shot later cuts to Lee Pace, equally sleeveless, emphasizing the raw strength of the film’s male leads.
“It’s funny, we did the commentary for the film the other day and it was actually Glen’s first DVD commentary,” Wright said. “And I said something to him, which I didn’t say to him on set—there’s a scene with him and Daniel Ezra who plays Bradley. I said, ‘You guys were really having a gun off this day.’ Glen said, ‘Oh yeah, it was the gun show,’ because Daniel is in incredible shape.”
Wright’s appreciation for the cast’s physical dedication and humorous on-set energy reveals his excitement about reviving a lost art form—the DVD commentary—as part of his fresh take on The Running Man.
Author’s Summary: Edgar Wright and Glen Powell infuse their new version of The Running Man with humor, strength, and a nostalgic return to the art of the DVD commentary.
