DENVER — The Denver Broncos are not winning with style, but as long as they outscore their opponents, they remain satisfied despite an imperfect game.

“We’ve got to clean up some of the penalties. We’ve got to clean up the execution and that is an ongoing thing that probably never ends,” said Coach Sean Payton after the Broncos narrowly defeated the struggling Las Vegas Raiders, 10-7, on Thursday night.

With an 8-2 record, the Broncos hold the best mark in the NFL, despite not appearing like a top team on a windy evening in the Rocky Mountains—except for their defense.

Defensive Dominance

The Broncos’ defense pressured Geno Smith relentlessly, sacking him six times and pushing their season total to 46 sacks. This is the most sacks any team has recorded in its first 10 games since at least 1990.

Thanks to this defensive strength, Denver secured its seventh consecutive win, the longest winning streak for the team in a decade, and extended its home winning streak to 10 games.

“Yeah, we’ve got to do better,” Broncos quarterback Bo Nix admitted after throwing for just 150 yards, two interceptions, and one touchdown pass. “At some point, 10 points ain’t going to be enough. … We’ve got to find some juice somewhere.”

Outlook

The Broncos aim to improve their execution and reduce penalties as they continue their strong season despite offensive struggles.

Author’s summary: The Denver Broncos rely heavily on their dominant defense to maintain the NFL’s best record at 8-2, despite offensive and penalty challenges.
