Significant updates on North Quays: Train station, Bridge, Clock Tower - News - Waterford News & Star

North Quays Progress Update

Visible progress is ongoing on key North Quays developments including the Sustainable Transport Bridge, the new train station, and the South Quays Plaza near the Clock Tower.

New Train Station Developments

The front elevation of the train station is now visible following scaffolding removal. The northern plaza, serving bus and car drop-offs and linking to the new southeast greenway, is advancing with curbs and paving being installed. Structural works such as roofing, paving, rendering, and internal fit-out are expected to complete in the next few months.

Substantial mechanical and electrical installations remain before the station can be fully operational.

Waterford Council Senior Engineer Sean Dobbs said, “The station can only open once it passes through all the independent safety and compliance checks, and those will continue all through 2026 and into 2027."

The station’s opening is anticipated in 2027.

Sustainable Transport Bridge Status

The Sustainable Transport Bridge is fully installed with operational opening spans. BAM is regularly testing the opening and closing actions.

Upcoming work will focus on finishing details including surfacing, glass panels, railings, lighting, seating, and architectural accents.

Summary

The North Quays project continues to make visible strides toward completion with major infrastructure elements advancing steadily while critical safety checks and internal works remain ongoing.
