Gabagool & Pickleball: Soprano’s Star Joins CCARC Event

NEW BRITAIN — This past weekend brought excitement to the New Britain CCARC as more than a dozen participants enjoyed a lively morning of pickleball. The event took place at Club Pickleball inside the Meriden Mall, welcoming people of all ages with special needs. The club generously provided all courts and equipment for the occasion.

The Center for Community Resources, based on Slater Road, focuses on supporting individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities across the surrounding communities. The nonprofit, now nearing its 80th year of service, continues to empower people through inclusive events and activities.

Anthony Gionfriddo, director of the Beautiful Lives Project, coordinated the session and encouraged participants to embrace the fast-growing sport with joy and confidence.

“What a fantastic morning as these folks have a chance to be part of this sport, and you can see the energy they all have and can’t wait to get on the courts. This is their time to shine, look at those smiles,” said Gionfriddo.

Adding to the excitement, Gionfriddo introduced a special guest instructor: Joseph R. Gannascoli, known to many as Vito from *The Sopranos*. Gannascoli joined players on the court to share his experience and later took part in a meet-and-greet and autograph session.
