Edie Falco Interested in Playing a Female Superhero

Edie Falco, known for her Emmy-winning performances in The Sopranos and Nurse Jackie, expressed her desire to take on the role of a female superhero, calling it an exciting new challenge.

Approach to Complex Characters

Falco thrives on portraying layered and complicated characters, saying she has never faced a role she couldn't manage. She explained,

“Never have I said I can’t do that. You sort of find a way you can go and see, because you’re able to know you have to stop before it is dangerous. And I’ve been in therapy for 7,000 years.”

She added, “I look for those [complicated characters]. That’s what makes this exciting. To play someone with a less complicated life is less interesting.”

Career Reflections and Future Interests

At 62, Falco feels fortunate to have portrayed a wide variety of complex female characters. She believes she has caught a wave of increasingly interesting and nuanced roles for women in the industry.

“I’ve been very lucky that kind of since I started working, female characters are getting more interesting and complicated, I feel like I’m riding this wave of really interesting and complicated female characters.”

The actress also acknowledged that not being typecast early helped her career longevity, saying, “I imagine if you’re only ever playing young, beautiful, sexy women, it’s going to get harder as you get older.”

Looking ahead, Falco also expressed curiosity about portraying a political figure, joking, “Maybe I can get something out of my system.”
