Jennifer Lawrence humorously described acting alongside Robert Pattinson in Die My Love as "total revenge" after failing to secure a role in the Twilight series. She revealed on the 2023 podcast The Rewatchables that the studio rejected her "immediately" for the role of Bella Swan and she "didn’t even get a callback."
Fifteen years and two blockbuster franchises later, Lawrence and Pattinson are starring together in Mubi’s new film Die My Love. At the film’s New York premiere, Lawrence joked to Variety,
“Yeah, it’s the total revenge that I’ve wanted.”
Directed by Lynne Ramsay, Die My Love is her first feature since 2017’s You Were Never Really Here. The film is a tense psychodrama where Lawrence plays a writer struggling with her mental health amid a turbulent marriage and motherhood pressures.
On screen, Lawrence and Pattinson engage in intense verbal clashes, yet their real-life working relationship is much calmer. Lawrence shared,
“My favorite part of working with him was probably that we could be in the same room, but not talk for a really long time. I really appreciate that in a coworker.”
Pattinson recalled his first exposure to Lawrence’s work, saying the first film he saw her in was Winter’s Bone (2010), where she portrayed a struggling teenager hunting for her father in the Ozarks.
Summary: Jennifer Lawrence playfully calls teaming with Robert Pattinson in Die My Love a long-awaited "revenge" after missing out on Twilight, highlighting their contrasting on- and off-screen chemistry.
