Athlete of the Week: Hayden Emerson Leads LaGrange High Cheer Team

Poise, precision, and confidence shine whenever Hayden Emerson takes the mats as captain of the LaGrange High competition cheer team. A senior and leader, she sets a positive example for younger team members.

“She has the best attitude and does anything asked of her,” said Brandi Turner, LaGrange High’s head competition cheer coach. “She never complains and always gives 100%.”

With only three seniors on the squad this year, Emerson has embraced a larger leadership role. Her strong presence helps unify the team.

“It's been a lot of fun connecting with the freshmen and sophomores on the team,” Emerson shared. “I also think our little senior group is nice because it’s easy for us to all agree on stuff.”

Cheering has always been Emerson’s passion, a sport she has loved since elementary school and that feels like home. Though saying goodbye to high school cheer is tough, she plans to continue tumbling classes and hopes to cheer in college.

“I still plan on taking tumbling classes once the season ends, and wherever I go to college, I plan on trying out for the cheerleading team there,” she said, naming the University of Georgia as her dream school.

Emerson’s journey in cheerleading shows her commitment and leadership, inspiring those around her.

Summary: Hayden Emerson exemplifies leadership and dedication as LaGrange High’s cheer captain, with ambitions to continue cheering at the University of Georgia.
