The Kington Town Council has advised against approving the revised proposal for three detached self-build homes in the area. The applicant, Ian Laurie, seeks permission to establish a small residential development on land previously part of Newburn Farm, next to Kingswood Road in Kington.
To the north, a similar self-build project resulted in five houses built over four years. The success of that scheme and continuing demand for self-build properties motivated Laurie to propose this smaller follow-up development to the south.
“The site could probably take more, but out of respect for the neighbouring properties we have restricted the development to three dwellings,” said Ian Laurie.
The applicant’s earlier self-build project nearby demonstrated clear interest in individual homebuilding. However, despite similar potential benefits, the town council has recommended refusal of this new application, citing unspecified concerns consistent with maintaining local character and planning balance.
