Jorge Martin experienced a very challenging 2025 season. Fabiano Sterlacchini, Aprilia's technical director, shared insights into Martin's struggles and comeback.
Martin dealt with multiple injuries and a well-known contract dispute with Aprilia's management, making his year stressful and difficult. Despite these setbacks, the 2024 MotoGP world champion remains optimistic about his chances next season.
«Jorge Martin's situation, clearly, has been quite a difficult journey as we have gone through several learning stages. And then he came back mid-season when Marco Bezzecchi was in really great form. And, of course, for a rider as talented as Jorge, and a world champion to boot, it's not so easy to accept having to fight to recover.»
Fabiano Sterlacchini, who succeeded Romano Albesiano at Aprilia and previously worked with KTM in MotoGP, emphasized the importance of finding solutions during the season. Despite the challenges, Martin managed to reach a respectable level by the end of his recovery period.
«During the Misano tests, before his return at the Czech Grand Prix, we did some pretty interesting work with Jorge on the ergonomics side, but also on finding a base for the motorcycle, because in this sport, with the format we have, it's super important to be competitive from the very first free practice sessions.»
Sterlacchini believes that given Aprilia's current performance, Martin has a strong chance to be competitive at the front in the upcoming season.
Author's summary: Despite a tough 2025 marked by injuries and disputes, Jorge Martin’s resilience and Aprilia’s technical support position him well for a strong comeback next season.
