Several well-known figures have achieved great success despite not having a high school diploma. Their stories show that traditional education paths aren't the only routes to achievement.
Jeremy Allen White, star of The Bear, recently shared a heartfelt moment involving an old teacher at the New York City premiere of his film Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere. He admitted to not being a good student because he didn’t attend school regularly and never graduated from the Professional Performing Arts School.
“I wasn’t a good student because I didn’t go to school enough,” he said on the October 23 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, explaining his incomplete education.
After the film screening, his teacher surprised him with a gift — his high school diploma. At 34 years old, Jeremy graduated high school in that moment.
“And I was like, ‘Ah, you don’t have to do this, this is crazy, what are you giving me a gift for?’ And I open it up, and it is my high school diploma. So… at 34 years old, I graduated high school!” Jeremy White shared.
Nicole Kidman, who holds two Oscars, shared her feelings on leaving school before graduation. She described herself as a high school dropout, which she wasn’t proud of but acknowledged the positive influence of some of her teachers.
“I’m a high school dropout, which I’m not proud to say,” she said during an interview on 60 Minutes. “I had some teachers that I still think of fondly and were amazing to me.”
By the age of 15, Kidman was already determined to pursue an acting career and moved to Los Angeles to follow her dream.
Many celebrities prove that lacking a high school diploma does not prevent one from reaching success through determination and passion.
