Lucy Liu Wins Réalta Award for 'Rosemead' at Belfast Film Festival

Hollywood actress Lucy Liu has been honored with the prestigious Réalta Award at the Belfast Film Festival for her latest film Rosemead. The accolade celebrates artists who use their craft to make a positive social impact. Liu’s film explores themes of mental health and family bonds.

During her visit to Northern Ireland’s capital, the Charlie’s Angels and Kill Bill star spoke warmly of the local community, describing Belfast’s residents as “kind and welcoming.” She mentioned enjoying traditional foods like soda bread and potato bread but admitted she skipped the black pudding.

“It’s just an honour to be here and to celebrate all of the art and the culture the festival has brought to the community,” — Lucy Liu told BBC News NI.

Liu, who spent a month in Northern Ireland in 2023 while filming the action comedy Old Guy, said she had “a great working experience” and made “really lovely friends” during her stay. Her film Rosemead, which premiered in Ireland during the festival, tells the story of a terminally ill mother and her schizophrenic teenage son. Liu both stars in and produces the film, a role she says has strengthened her connection to storytelling.
