Atalanta BC’s struggles in the domestic season continued with a disappointing 3-0 home defeat against US Sassuolo, marking their seventh straight Serie A game without a win (five draws and two losses).
The hosts started eagerly and nearly scored early when Ademola Lookman’s quick shot was brilliantly saved on the goal line by Jay Idzes just eight minutes into the game. Sassuolo then settled into the match and earned a penalty shortly before the 30-minute mark after Marco Carnesecchi fouled Andrea Pinamonti in the area.
Domenico Berardi calmly converted the penalty into the bottom corner, scoring his third Serie A goal of the season and giving Sassuolo the lead.
Atalanta’s creativity remained lacking, resulting in only one shot on target in the entire first half. The situation worsened just two minutes after halftime when Berardi assisted Pinamonti inside the box, allowing the Italian striker to easily turn past his marker and double Sassuolo’s lead.
Sassuolo’s dominant performance, led by Berardi’s key contributions, highlights Atalanta’s continued offensive struggles and their ongoing winless streak.
