MOUNT VERNON — No matter where one stands in life, whether known or unknown, wealthy or struggling, challenges are inevitable. For Wendell Brown, this reality fuels his dedication to the “Tragedy into Triumph” ministry — a program designed to help people turn hardships into growth and faith.
As part of the ministry’s outreach, a three-night event is being held at the R.R. Hodges Chapel and Fine Arts Center on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University. The series welcomes former University of Georgia head football coach Mark Richt as its inaugural guest.
Richt, now serving as an analyst for the ACC/ESPN Network, built a remarkable 33-year coaching career, including 14 years leading Georgia and three with the Miami Hurricanes. Before addressing a full auditorium, he reflected on his approach to both coaching and life.
“Things are not always going to go the way you want and there are things that are going to happen to you in life,” Richt said. “Some of those things you cannot control, but you can control how you react to them.”
Diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in May 2021, Richt continues to demonstrate the perseverance that defined his career.
“The reason I love football is that it is tough,” Richt said. “You are guaranteed to get knocked down, but you just have to get back up.”
Mark Richt opened the Tragedy into Triumph series by reflecting on resilience and faith, sharing how his experience in football continues to guide him through personal challenges.
