BBC Star Sara Cox Begins 135-Mile Trek for Children in Need

BBC Radio 2 presenter Sara Cox is embarking on a challenging 135-mile journey through the North East today to raise funds for Children in Need. This endurance event, called the "Great Northern Marathon Challenge," involves completing five marathons in five days across four counties while carrying a Pudsey Bear backpack.

Route and Challenge Details

Sara Cox’s trek will cross the moorlands and hills of Durham, North Yorkshire, Northumberland, and West Yorkshire. Starting in Kielder Forest on November 10, her journey will conclude in Pudsey, Leeds, on November 14.

Sara Cox's Statement

“When they picked me to get Pudsey to Pudsey, I was honoured and horrified in equal measure. We’re talking 135 miles of hills, moors and blisters – but I am ready for the challenge, and I will absolutely be giving it everything I’ve got. I know the brilliant Radio 2 listeners will be with me every step of the way, and their encouragement and support will shove me up every incline and pull me through my toughest moments. Pudsey has been part of Children in Need for 40 years this year, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by helping raise much-needed funds for children who need it most.”

Support and Motivation

Sara will run, jog, and walk through the varied terrain while carrying a Pudsey Bear backpack as a symbol of the charity. Her Radio 2 audience is anticipated to provide ongoing encouragement throughout the challenge.

Event Purpose

This trek marks a special anniversary for Pudsey Bear's involvement with Children in Need, aiming to boost vital funds for children in need across the UK.
