After countless hours of training, Bolton native Sara Cox is set to start an epic Children in Need challenge. The BBC Radio 2 presenter from Little Lever will run the equivalent of five marathons in five days, covering 135 miles across four counties.
Sharing with her 545,000 Instagram followers, Sara posted the night before:
“Welcome to the calm before the storm. I’m watching Countryfile, in Northumberland, having a lovely time. Tomorrow (Monday), I’ll start my epic Great Northern Marathon Challenge – 135 miles – from Kielder Forest all the way to Pudsey in Leeds. Thanks for all your messages on Instagram, they’ve given me such a boost.”
This morning, Sara joined Scott Mills on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show to discuss her challenge, which was expected to begin at 8:15 am. She said:
“I’ll be up super early, my knees will be a-knocking but I am going to give it as much welly as I can despite having a slight lurgy. Let’s do this and raise loads of money for Children in Need.”
Sara follows the path set by fellow Bolton residents and Radio 2 colleagues Paddy McGuinness and Vernon Kay, who both undertook their own challenges in recent years, raising millions for the charity.
Sara Cox embarks on a 135-mile, five-day marathon challenge to support Children in Need, motivated by community spirit and the legacy of fellow Bolton challengers.
