BBC presenter Sara Cox is preparing to undertake one of Children in Need’s longest challenges to raise funds for the annual charity event. She will start her journey in a renowned Northumberland location.
Sara, a former Radio 1 host and current Radio 2 Tea Time presenter and Book Club host, will cover the distance of five marathons over five days. Her route will take her from Northumberland to Pudsey near Leeds, where she will reunite with the famous Children in Need bear.
The epic challenge will commence in the scenic surroundings of Kielder Forest, a spot recently featured worldwide as a filming location for the zombie thriller 28 Years Later. The film, directed by Oscar winner Danny Boyle, showcased this North East area during its production last year.
Sara’s Great Northern Marathon Challenge covers 135 miles on foot across four counties: Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire, and West Yorkshire. Throughout the journey, she will navigate moorlands, steep ridges, and rolling hills, carrying a special Pudsey Bear backpack.
"Sara Cox is getting ready to take part in one of Children in Need's longest ever challenges, aiming to raise as much money as possible for the annual fundraiser."
"She will begin her epic mission in the idyllic surroundings of Kielder Forest, which has already been seen by audiences across the world this year, thanks to being the setting for some of the key moments of zombie thriller 28 Years Later."
Her challenge highlights the season’s spirit and the iconic Children in Need campaign, linking stunning landscapes with a worthy cause.
