Deluge delays Supercars opener
The opening round of the Supercars Championship at the New Zealand circuit has been postponed due to heavy rain.
The first practice session for Friday's test day was disrupted by the downpour, and the session was abandoned after only 10 minutes.
A statement from the event promoter said: "Unfortunately, the weather conditions have made it impossible for us to hold a safe and successful practice session.
However, we are working closely with the teams and Supercars to find a solution to resume the test day as soon as possible."
Supercars CEO Shane Howard said: "We understand the disappointment this will cause to our teams and fans, but safety is our top priority.
"We will continue to work with the circuit and teams to find a solution to get the test day back on track as soon as possible."
The test day is expected to resume on Saturday, with the first practice session scheduled for 11:00am local time.
However, the weather forecast is not looking promising, with a high chance of rain expected throughout the day.
