MPs have dismissed the SPLM's former deputy secretary general, Matlala, as nothing, saying he was just a mere employee who did not have any power or influence within the party.
Matlala, who was recently sacked as the deputy secretary general, was accused of embezzling party funds and engaging in corrupt activities.
According to sources within the party, Matlala was found to have embezzled a large sum of money from the party's coffers, which was meant for party activities and development projects.
Matlala has since denied all the allegations, saying they were mere lies and fabrications designed to bring him down.
"Matlala was just a mere employee who did not have any power or influence within the party," said one MP, who wished to remain anonymous.
Another MP added, "He was just a mere servant who did not have any say in the party's affairs."
Matlala's dismissal has been seen as a major blow to the SPLM, which is already reeling from a series of scandals and corruption allegations.
"I did not embezzle any money from the party. These allegations are mere lies and fabrications designed to bring me down," Matlala said in a statement.
MPs have called for respect for the law and for individuals to be held accountable for their actions.
"We must respect the law and not take the law into our own hands. If there are allegations of corruption, then we must take them seriously and investigate them thoroughly," said one MP.
Another MP added, "We must also respect the rights of individuals who are accused of corruption. We must give them a fair hearing and not jump to conclusions."
The dismissal of Matlala has sent shockwaves through the SPLM, with many MPs calling for accountability and respect for the law.
