The New Democratic Party (NDP) has won the elections in St Vincent and the Grenadines, the Caribbean nation's electoral commission announced on April 9, 2020.
According to the preliminary results, the NDP secured 8 seats in the 15-member House of Assembly, while the Unity Labour Party (ULP) won 7 seats.
The main opposition party, the NDP, was led by Dr Godwin Friday, who is expected to become the new Prime Minister of the country.

Former Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, who led the ULP, conceded defeat and congratulated Dr Friday on his victory.

"I wish them all the best as they prepare to take up the responsibility of governing our country."
St Vincent and the Grenadines, a former British colony, is an independent nation with a population of around 110,000 people.
