Punjab Girls Make National Swim
Three girls from Punjab have made it to the national swim team, a first in the state's history.
They are among 36 swimmers selected for the national junior team that will represent the country at the Asian Youth Games in China in July.
The three girls from Punjab are Harleen Kaur, Khushpreet Kaur, and Srishti Chaudhary.
Harleen Kaur, a student of Class 9, has been selected for the 100m freestyle event, while Khushpreet Kaur, a student of Class 10, has been selected for the 200m backstroke event.
Srishti Chaudhary, a student of Class 11, has been selected for the 400m freestyle event.
They will train under the guidance of coach Jayant Talwallikar in Delhi.
Coach Talwallikar said, "It's a great moment for Punjab and a proud moment for us as a team."
"These girls have worked hard and have made a mark for themselves. We are confident that they will do well in the Asian Youth Games."
Indian Swimming Federation (ISF) Secretary General Rajesh Chowdhury said, "It's a historic moment for Punjab and a proud moment for the ISF."
"We have been working hard to develop swimming in the country and it's a great moment to see Punjab girls making it to the national team."
Harleen Kaur, the youngest of the three girls, said, "I am extremely happy and thrilled to have been selected for the national team."
"I have been training for the past two years and it's a dream come true to represent the country."
Khushpreet Kaur, who is the eldest of the three girls, said, "I am proud to be the first girl from Punjab to be selected for the national team."
"It's a great moment for me and my family and I am confident that I will do well in the Asian Youth Games."
Srishti Chaudhary, who is the most experienced of the three girls, said, "I am happy to have been selected for the national team."
"I have been training for the past three years and it's a great moment for me to represent the country."
"We are proud of the girls and we are confident that they will do well in the Asian Youth Games."
