After the First Light March in 1989, the torch relay tradition continued in the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France.
Beginning on January 15, 1992, the torch relay started in Olympia, Greece, and traveled through 32 countries before arriving in Albertville, France on February 15, 1992, exactly one month after the torch relay began.
The torch relay was carried by 3,500 torchbearers, each holding the torch for a short distance before passing it to the next person.
The final torchbearer, Terje Lønning, an American-Norwegian athlete, lit the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony of the 1992 Winter Olympics.
