Saskatoon's Mike McEwen has advanced to the semifinals at the Canadian Curling Trials in Banff, Alberta.
McEwen's team, which includes Reid Carruthers, Derek Samagalski, and Colin Hodgson, finished the round robin with a 6-1 record.
In their first game of the playoffs, McEwen's team defeated the Alberta team, led by Kevin Koe, 8-4.
"It was a great game," McEwen said in a post-game interview. "We played really well and made some big shots when it mattered most."
McEwen's team will now face the Ontario team, led by John Epping, in the semifinals on Wednesday night.
McEwen's team is looking to become the first Canadian men's curling team to qualify for the Winter Olympics in two years.
In an interview with the StarPhoenix, McEwan said, "We're feeling good about our chances. We've been playing well all season and we're looking forward to the opportunity to compete at the highest level."
