Raytheon has completed testing of a ground-launched variant of its StormBreaker smart weapon, achieving the milestone just 50 days after development began.
The test took place at a private range in California’s Mojave Desert, where a prototype weapon reached an altitude of around 20,000 feet and met its primary objectives.
“Recent global conflicts have highlighted the need for a smart, ground-launched, precision strike weapon that can perform in GPS-contested areas,”
said Sam Deneke, president of Air & Space Defense Systems at Raytheon. He explained that the rapid turnaround was enabled by reusing existing StormBreaker components.
