Brant County is anticipating significant budget pressures as it approaches the 2026 property tax discussions.
A long-term property tax forecast reveals some of the budget pressures, including capital projects, operating expenses, and revenue across the next 10 years.
The 2026 forecast shows a 13.6 per cent increase, the highest anticipated across the decade.
It’s “a raw set of data based on the expenditures and revenues in a particular year,”
According to Byron Tan, a consultant from Watson & Associates, the county can use reserve funds, delay non-priority projects, or enlist debt to spread payments and "smooth" the rate.
Tan noted that the forecast is not the final property tax levy.
