Canadian Tire Corporation Experiences Data Breach
Canadian Tire Corporation announced a data breach affecting e-commerce customer information on October 2.
The unauthorized activity was limited to that database, which did not include Canadian Tire Bank information or Triangle Rewards loyalty data.
The company stated that the vulnerability has been resolved and external experts are working to enhance related protections. In-store transactions were not impacted, and all e-commerce systems are operational.
- The database contained basic personal information for customers with e-commerce accounts at Canadian Tire, SportChek, Mark’s/L’Équipeur, and Party City.
- Information included name, address, email, and year of birth.
- Encrypted passwords and, in some cases, truncated credit card information were also affected.
