Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is giving House Speaker Mike Johnson an ultimatum: schedule Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva's swearing-in ceremony within two days or face a lawsuit.
Rep.-elect Grijalva has yet to be sworn in, three weeks after being elected to represent Arizona's 7th Congressional District in Congress. Mayes sent a letter to Johnson's office on Tuesday, stating that the oath of office ceremony must take place before the end of the federal government shutdown.
Mayes announced that she was sending the letter during the official canvas of the Sept. 23 special election results on Tuesday morning.
