Chopin Competition 2025: Giving One's Heart
Stage 3, Day 1 of the Chopin Competition took place on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
As the competition progresses, one wonders if participants feel less pressure now than in previous rounds. The initial auditions are over, and now they can focus on performing and making music.
Yang (Jack) Gao is an example of a participant who gave his heart to the performance. He chose the Shigeru Kawai for its resonance and sustaining capabilities, as he mentioned on Ben Laude's live Chopin Podcast.
He would be right up there if you were to ask me who has the best 'cello' tone of all living pianists.
His performance of the Third Impromptu was notable, with elegant and supple bass lines that sounded like a bow arm rather than piano hammers.
