If you had asked me three weeks ago who our ambassador to France was, I wouldn’t have had the slightest idea.
I would probably have naively assumed that anybody South Africa sent to represent its interests overseas would have had an impeccable record of loyalty to the country and, more importantly, no smallanyana skeletons in the closet. Silly me.
Nathi Mthetwa apparently became depressed and hurled himself from the 22nd floor of a Paris hotel.
Although the circumstances would suggest suicide, the investigation is still continuing in both France and South Africa to reveal the real cause of death.
