Inside Selhurst: Refurbishment of Electrostar Trains
A £100 million project to refurbish over 300 Electrostar trains has been completed by Govia Thameslink (GTR) staff at the Selhurst depot.
The project, which took five years to complete, is believed to be the largest fleet upgrade in modern times. What's unusual about this project is that all the work was carried out in-house by GTR staff, rather than a third-party refurbishment company.
Train overhauls typically involve multiple companies, including the train builder, owner, operator, and maintenance company. However, for this fleet upgrade, GTR decided to bring the job in-house, utilizing their existing Selhurst depot.

GTR operates trains under various names, including Thameslink, Great Northern, Southern, and Gatwick Express.
