Full-time support staff strike comes to end after deal reached with Ontario colleges

Full-time Support Staff Strike Ends with Tentative Agreement

Ontario colleges and full-time support staff have reached a tentative agreement, ending a five-week strike that affected all 24 colleges across the province.

The breakthrough came after a private mediation session led by Mediator William Kaplan, resolving the bargaining impasse between the College Employer Council (CEC) and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU).

“Support staff play an important role in our colleges,” says Graham Lloyd, CEO of the CEC. “We are grateful to have them back to work.”

The deal affects about 10,000 striking employees who provide essential support to college operations and student success. As part of the agreement with OPSEU, picketing at Ontario colleges will end immediately.

Author's summary: Strike ends with deal for 10,000 staff.
