A suspected stolen car was caught on camera careening along a footpath after attempting to swerve a police stinger at speed.

According to reports, patrols had requested the driver of the vehicle to stop in Sturry Road, Canterbury, just before 10am on October 11. However, the driver continued and hit three other cars before officers lost sight of him.

Footage from the scene shows police attempting to bring the speeding Mercedes to a stop using a stinger device along the A28 Island Road, outside the Hoplands housing development.

In the clip, the vehicle can be seen attempting to swerve the trap, but its offside rear tyre appears to be clipped.
