Mysterious Signal from SpaceX Satellites

A constellation of classified defense satellites built by SpaceX, known as Starshield, is emitting a mysterious signal that may violate international standards.

An amateur satellite tracker in Canada, Scott Tilley, discovered the signal, which is coming from Starshield satellites in a "hidden" part of the radio spectrum.

The use of those frequencies to "downlink" data runs counter to standards set by the International Telecommunication Union, a United Nations agency that seeks to coordinate the use of radio spectrum globally.

The unusual transmissions have the potential to interfere with other scientific and commercial satellites, warns Tilley.

The signals are being transmitted on frequencies normally used for sending commands from Earth to satellites in space, rather than the other way around.

Author's summary: SpaceX's Starshield satellites emit mysterious signals.
