Ursuline Lancers' Jeremias, Carrington win LKSSAA cross-country races

Gabryela Jeremias, a ninth-grader at Ursuline, has been a running fan for a few years, but her fondness is growing into a passion.

“Running, I can just be in my world,”

she said. Jeremias won the novice girls race at the LKSSAA championship Thursday at Canatara Park, covering the four-kilometre course in 17:29, 25 seconds ahead of runner-up Hailey Reid of North Lambton.

Jeremias has been interested in running

“Since Grade 5, I’ve always had a thing for running,”
she said.
“Then in Grade 8, I fell more in love with it. I think now running’s my thing.”

The LKSSAA victory is her second this season. Next is the SWOSSAA championship Thursday at Windsor’s Malden Park.

“I’m definitely pumped,”
Jeremias said.
“I’m not as nervous as I would have probably been in Grade 8 if I heard that I was going to SWOSSAA.”
