Discovery of 3,500-year-old Egyptian Military Fortress
A 3,500-year-old Egyptian fortress has been discovered in the north Sinai Desert, located on an ancient military road.
Archaeologists found a remarkably well-preserved fort with a zigzag-style wall, featuring ancient ovens and fossilized dough.
- The fortress is approximately 2 acres (0.8 hectares) in size.
- Artifacts suggest it was built during the reign of Thutmose I (circa 1504 to 1492 B.C.).
The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities stated that Thutmose I's expansion of Egypt's empire into modern-day Syria explains the fortress' location.
