A new all-vegan café, Layla’s Kitchen Café, has opened at Jesmond United Reformed Church, serving plant-based food and drink options.
The café offers teas, lattes, salads, and wholesome cookies, with gluten-free choices available. Owner Yasmin Sayed Ahmed had run an independent catering business for over five years, including selling all-vegan options at Jesmond’s food market.
“I’ve always dreamed of opening up a cafe, as I’ve always had the passion for baking and creating.”
Yasmin’s decision to make her business fully vegan stems from her own switch to a plant-based lifestyle in 2018. After a successful pop-up at the Newcastle Piano Festival, she decided to open her own cafe.
