Rebecca Orwin's debut middle-grade novel, The Monsters at the End of the World, was acquired by Puffin in a six-figure deal.

Orwin, a lifelong book-lover, studied for a Masters in Creative Writing before pursuing her author dreams alongside a day job in arts administration.

"It didn’t feel very real,"

she says, of the moment she landed the deal. Her novel, to be published in January, features black and white illustrations by Oriol Vidal.

"You need the hard work, you need the talent but you also need that little bit of luck."
