Nanaimo's city council has decided to include the rail corridor in its long-term transit-oriented development plans, recognizing its potential for interurban light rail and active transit.
A motion put forward by Coun. Hilary Eastmure at a meeting on October 6 directed staff to explore opportunities and create policies supporting transit-oriented development centers, including Country Club and Woodgrove, with clear connections to the rail system for future corridor-related transit.
“We’re doing this review right now. We’re working on these transit-oriented development centres,”
said Eastmure. The city plan review aims to incorporate transportation by rail into future planning for transit-oriented areas.
