The song "Fly Me to the Moon", originally titled "In Other Words", was written in 1954 by Bart Howard. The lyrics include the famous lines:
Fly me to the moon, Let me play among the stars, Let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars. In other words, baby, kiss me…
Howard's publisher asked him to simplify his lyrics, and he spent 20 minutes writing a song with a simple message: Hold my hand. Although the idea of "spring" on Jupiter and Mars is not realistic, the song's theme of hand-holding and kissing is universal.
Interestingly, 15 years after the song was written, the Apollo space program made it possible for people to fly to the moon. While we don't know if any romantic moments occurred during those journeys, it's clear that hand-holding and kissing are much more affordable than space travel.
