MacroCycle's Innovative Approach to Plastic Recycling
MacroCycle has found a shortcut to make plastic recycling more efficient, reducing the energy needed to produce new material and potentially lowering costs to compete with virgin plastic.
Currently, only about 9% of all plastic is recycled globally, while the recycling rate for textiles is even lower at 0.5%. One of the main challenges is the complexity of textiles, which often consist of multiple materials, making them difficult to recycle.
“The challenge to recycling is that you can never predict your waste,” said Stwart Peña Feliz, co-founder and CEO of MacroCycle. “Your waste has infinite number of contaminants.”
MacroCycle's solution promises to make recycled plastic as inexpensive as virgin material, addressing the long-standing issue of plastic recycling.
