Tax and Export Reforms Urged to Reverse Plastic Recycling Decline
UK authorities are urged to implement policy measures, including increased Plastic Packaging Tax rates and strict export controls, to protect domestic recycling capabilities.
The calls have been made by the Green Alliance think tank as part of industry analysis into the challenges facing the UK plastic recycling sector.
A recent investigation by the Guardian newspaper found that 21 plastic recycling and processing factories have been closed across the UK over the last two years.
Despite significant political attention and public support for action on plastic, the plastics recycling industry is in steep decline in the UK.
