Russian leader Putin has declared 2027 the 'Year of Geography', with a focus on occupied territories and the Arctic.
New maps of Russia will be consolidated throughout the year, as announced by Putin during the Congress of the Russian Geographical Society.
"Given the contribution made by our geographers throughout history to strengthening the state and the paramount importance of geographical science, I ask the government to consider declaring 2027 the Year of Geography,"
Putin emphasized the importance of this decision from a political point of view, highlighting the consolidation of new maps of the Russian Federation as the main event of the year.
